The End [Chapter 2]
Event Time: December 4th, 2021 to December 5th, 2021
Description: The End [Chapter 2] was our Chapter 2, Season 8 end event. The event was another narrative event, and massive in scope. Players started off by fighting the Cube Queen, who was the Chapter 2, Season 8 nemesis. After this battle, players saw an in event cutscene that further contextualized the Fortnite lore and finally revealed a new character named The Foundation. Players were then thrown into the ocean were they witnessed the Fortnite island flipping over. We put players in downtime, and then they woke up with a brand new world to explore and play in.
Execution: The End [Chapter 2] was one of the largest events we’ve ever run in Fortnite. The biggest challenge we had with The End [Chapter 2] was we developed and built each portion of the event separately. This meant we had three different QA pipelines going at once, and there were different goals and deliverables for each portion of the event. Developing The End [Chapter 2] in this way was a ton of fun because it allowed for collaborative work between myself and one other QA Analyst. This pipeline execution also felt very similar to how we built the Jackbox Party Pack 4 when I was at Jackbox Games, so there was a degree of familiarity there.
As far as executing the actual event, most of what we did in The End [Chapter 2] was relatively familiar and executed in previous events. We did build out some new tech for this event in terms of sequencing between the various portions of the event, and as such had to adopt some new QA practices. The QA team worked really well together and we executed a tremendous event. The Transition out of Chapter 2 and into Chapter 3 was massively successful, becoming our largest season launch to date.
