The Final Showdown
Event Time: July 20th, 2019
Description: The Final Showdown was a late Season 9 event. During the event, a large terrifying monster rose up from the ocean and began destroying the Fortnite Island. A robot, which had been built across the entire season at Pressure Plant, woke up and began fighting this giant monster. The two engaged in a massive battle that took place across the entire Fortnite island. Finally, the giant monster was defeated, but not before the Robot had to open a vault in the center of the island to power itself up. This opening foreshadowed our Season X event, and the defeated monster decayed across the remainder of Season 9 and X, becoming a new point of interest for players to explore.
Execution: The Final Showdown was the first event I worked on at Epic, and actually launched about two weeks after I was hired. As such, I actually had very minimal input onto the event, and most of my work consisted of shadowing our former Events Analyst and asking questions. It was a great opportunity to explore our internal tools and figure out what it took to be an effective events analyst. Overall the event was very well received. We did not disclose any numbers regarding viewership
